Christmas Craft Fair

So, Scary did a bit of painting,

I've been doing a bit of sewing,

and finishing a few projects from ages ago,

and we had a little pretend layout in the kitchen (every other surface in the entire house was covered with detritus).

Eventually we were ready.

Everything was finished (well, apart from the Christmas stockings that I intended to make),

a reasonable profit was made

and we still have some things left over to use for Christmas presents!!

I think some major housework will have to be done tomorrow!

Two Phews and an Argument with the Traffic Warden

Phew No 1

Made £65 profit on the cake stall at the weekend.  Not bad considering I didn't have as much time to bake as usual.  Worth doing anyway.  No photos because Scary forgot to take any!  Humph!

We'll skip over the argument with the Traffic Warden, shall we?  I always thought you could park on double yellows if you were unloading (which I was)!  I didn't get a ticket, thank goodness, so I guess I sort of won that argument, but it did awful things to my blood pressure and sense of humour for the rest of the day.

Phew No 2

I got the date wrong for the craft stall and it is on 2nd December, not this Friday as I originally thought!  One more week to get organised.  [But what am I doing?  I'm messing about on the computer, instead of getting one's ass in gear!]

I will try and take some photos of what I'm making later, when I've finished checking Pinterest for some more inspiration ................

Preparation is The Key

Aaaaahhhhhh!

Why do we take on so much?  Correction, why do I take on so much?  You're probably all out there in Blogland with your presents handmade and wrapped, with Christmas cards poised for posting and Christmas puddings aromatically maturing in larder cupboards!

I am not.

Nor ever likely to be.

There is no more productive time like 'The Last Minute'.

Anyway, just thought I better drop in and play catch up; at least, prove that I haven't been spending all my time on Pinterest (ahem).

That strange red thing I was making a while ago here was eventually finished, along with a couple of others and they now reside on my bookshelves.

See, it wasn't rude!  Unlike this thing I saw [click here], which please don't look at if you are of a nervous disposition.  But do you think the Runner would like me to knit him a pair?

The two main things I am in a panic about are a cake stall on Saturday (you know what I will be doing from dawn til dusk and later tomorrow don't you?) and a craft stall the following Friday.

Lots of making projects going on at the moment, most of them half-finished!

Panic Attack

Okay, I seem to be getting in a bit of a pickle.

Marathon Runner has booked a stall at the local primary school Christmas Fair in three weeks and it is becoming increasingly clear that he expects me to organise everything.  Having read quite a few blogs and seen things like That Crafty Fish and Sal's Snippets, my expectations are high but I fear that my capabilities are sadly lacking and with so little time, I am feeling a little panic-stricken.

So I guess I need to be getting my ass in gear!

Wham!

My youngest Mad Child is a bit strange, hence 'Mad'. At first sight very laid back and easy going but then WHAM! she hits you with something so way out it's all a bit Damien Hirst!



She goes to Guides, with her best friend Giggly Girl, and last week had been doing some craft. All the girls are trotting out with decorated wooden spoons, all lovely and colourful and pretty. Very Country Living; mostly floral and cute.

"Oh isn't she lovely!" says I, secretly thinking 'come on, hurry up, it's flippin' cold and I'm missing CSI'.



Just as the word 'lovely' comes out my mouth, she flips it around and there's the WHAM moment:

Let me introduce you to Henrietta.


Do you think she's cute? I got her at the Exeter Craft Fair on Saturday. I have several already from John Hilder in Seaton. Look at her lovely wings and tail and what do you call those things down her back?



It was a lovely day spent with my Mad Daughter, although she doesn't always share my enthusiasm for all things crafty. The trick is to keep feeding her!





Talking of feeding people, soon my friend and I have to make some refreshments for a play at School. We did it last year and all our cakes and bakes went down rather well so, guess what, we've been volunteered to do it again!



This show has been written by a teacher at the school, so we had no idea what it was about. Said teacher asks my friend very kindly if we could dress up and 'theme' our refreshments. Hmm, she says, what theme? Burlesque, he says. Off she trots, what's burlesque, she asks me? Hmm, says I, think it's a bit sort of can-can dancer. I'll go home and have a look on good 'ol Google.


My face must have been a picture when I looked at Google images. Oh I say, oooh really, have I got this right? It took me fifteen pages to find any ladies with a decent amount of clothes actually on! I don't think they make those tassles in size 36HH! Scary Daughter and Marathon Runner think it's hilarious. Having spoken to him again, I think we've come to the conclusion that what he really means is sort of Gothic Victorian. Damn, I was just getting the corset out!


So anyway, we've decided to go with a black and white theme for the refreshments, so I had a little practice tonight with some (ever so slightly out of date) black icing I found in the cupboard!



What do you think? Will this do?

Maybe I can get some black paper cases.

I still rather fancy that corset though ...
