She's Got Legs!

Today has been a bit of a blur.

Saturdays are always a bit of a rush with student changeovers.  We usually have two at a time but lately we seem to have been out of sync and only changing one each week.  This leads to all sorts of problems with lots of things being left behind and disagreements about who should go on the top bunk!

Our Italian left this morning and I hope she managed to get to Gatwick Airport with no problems after all the traffic problems they had yesterday!  We still have our little girl from Taiwan and now also a Swiss girl, whose English is very good so no need for so much sign language!  It really is lovely getting to know our students but it is always a bit of worry when they first arrive!  You never quite know what you're going to get.  We did get compensation one year when a Spanish student decided to carve her name into the bannister!

Scary and Starfish are getting quite good at changing the sheets on the bed now but Starfish always has to do the top bunk because Scary and I are so short we have to stand on a chair to reach!

Anyway, that's enough rambling for today.  Just a quick picture of Scary in her new skirt that she got at the Sidmouth Festival.

Wouldn't you just kill for that figure?

Wedding Photos

Well, I started uploading these photos on 22nd June and here I am just looking at them now.

Has anyone else been having problems with Blogger?  I keep getting an Error 503 message when I try to sign in.

Anyway, back to the original purpose of this post.  My friend's wedding.

This was her wedding dress:

Yes, I know about the green!

And her chief bridesmaid (her daughter):

Her hair looked lovely:

and the reception was held in the beautiful village of Gittisham:

All in all, a lovely day was had and it already seems such a long time ago!

We are in the midst of many foreign students staying (Spanish one gone today, French one with us, Swiss one coming tomorrow) and preparing to have a lemonade stall at Charter Day next weekend to raise some more funds for Scary's trip to India.

'They' say the weather is turning nasty later, so I better get down town to buy some sausages.  I thought I would do big yorkshire puddings and fill them with onion gravy and sausages tonight.  A few new potatoes and yellow courgettes from the garden and I think we're set!

Harry Potter tomorrow!  Woo Hoo!  We're taking bets on whether Starfish is going to cry!

Getting to know you

The first day with a new student is always a bit challenging. Poor things, I do feel for them. Plonked in a strange country, usually not understanding much of the language and with Scary being a typical monosyllabic teenager. However, they seemed to be getting on reasonably well considering we lacked the usually chatty Mad One. (Scary on the right here.)

The Maze at Escot proved quite demanding. Those rotten buggers have gates that they change each time you go there! Yes, this is the middle but we are on a bridge only about 20 feet away!
We did make it to the centre, but only after following someone that looked like they knew where they were going!

The tyre swing came next, while I sat on a wonderfully rustic carved seat looking at the sky!

Another swing now. Come on Scary, put your back into it!

That's a bit better!

Spanish girl gets it right away!

I think we're going to get on well with this one. Despite her lack of English, she smiles, eats well and has impeccable manners.

Roll on tomorrow when I get my Baby back! Good excuse for a cake, don't you think?

Country Living Frustration

I bought this rather inviting magazine this morning:

but I couldn't read it! I just had toooooo much to do.

We were due another student this evening and her room, and the entire house, was a complete mess!

So all day I've been moving, cleaning, polishing, hoovering and making beds. Now I get to sit down with it (and the remote control, by the way, which I don't get very often) but Mel Gibson is distracting me!

At the library yesterday I also picked up this:

but Scary says under no circumstances does she want knitted bra and panties! She is a spoilsport isn't she?

Yet More Food!

We have a couple of French students staying at the moment and it just so happens that one of them celebrates her birthday today. So we can't let this opportunity pass without a cake, can we?

Does anyone fancy licking off the beater? Usually I have a fight on my hands at this point, but they are all at school/work! I wonder if there is such a thing as a mixer with THREE beaters? (That doesn't include me, I lick out the bowl!)

Our student's name is Mahault (pronounced Mao), so we thought we would make some badges for her as well!

Ta-da!

Let's hope she enjoys it!
One day I will get around to showing you the crafts I enjoy!
Adieu, or do I mean au revoir?
